How to prepare your Hot Holster

As all microwaves are different you need to experiment with yours to find the right amount of time to heat the flaxseed pack. If you overheat, the flaxseed will burn and even though they will continue to function well, they will keep that burned smell. Check how hot it is after 30 seconds, adding ten seconds at a time till you find the right number. If you hear a flaxseed pop, stop immediately and reduce that time by ten seconds and that is the amount of time to use. It’s easy to overheat and burn them, so that is why I have included 2 flaxseed packs. If your careful watching the time you need never burn the second pack. You also need to be careful to reduce the amount of time if you are reheating a semi-warm pack.

You also need to heat your bottle of oil/lotion (the flaxseed pack will heat it, but it takes a long time and reduces the overall amount of time that you will have warm lotion/oil). Fill your bottle to no more then an inch from the top and warm it in the microwave to a comfortable temperature. Do not fill the bottle to the top you need to leave room for heat expansion. Be sure to only use HDPE (high-density polyethylene) plastic bottles, as they are the most heat resistant (they will have HDPE inside a triangle symbol on the bottom). If you keep the Bottle Hoodie on the bottle while in the microwave it will catch those few drops that sometimes get pushed out while heating.
Do not over heat your oil/lotion!
Your HDPE bottle will melt if you get it hot enough. If your oil/lotion is a comfortable temperature for your hands, then it’s a good temp for the bottle too.
Place hot flaxseed pack in bottom of the holster, (instead of trying to stuff the flax pack into the Hot Holster, try “pouring” it in) nestle your warm bottle of lotion/oil on top and close straps.

Hot Holster Care

Hot Holster and belt are 100% hemp, with an interlining of 100% wool.
Machine wash warm or hot, no bleach, shape with fingers and allow to air dry.
The Hot Holster and belt have been pre-shrunk. Washing sometimes will cause the Hot Holster to shrink a little more, temporarily, which is normal. Simply heat your flax pack and bottle of oil, place in your Hot Holster and use as usual. Within a few minutes, the hemp fibers will relax and your hot holster will return to its original size.

Bottle Hoodie is 55% hemp and 45% cotton.
Machine wash warm or hot. Tumble dry or air dry.
Your Bottle Hoodie has not been pre-shrunk, you will find that it is a little oversized for the bottle initially, but after 1-2 washings it will shrink and fit snugly.

Flax pack is 100% cotton filled with natural flaxseed.
Not washable.
Because of its high oil content flax seed are excellent for holding heat but over time the oils break down and can develop a stale odor. How long this takes, of course, depends on how often they are used, and how high they are heated. I use mine daily and they usually last 1-2 years. Old flax seed packs are retired to my compost pile. If you want to be really thrifty and recycle your heat pack, simple snip corner of pack open and replace old flaxseed with 10 ounces of fresh flaxseed, sew securely shut. Even someone with poor sewing skills can do this as it doesn’t have to look good, it just needs to be secure.
