Taking a few moments to warm your massage oil bottle is one of those simple things that have big rewards. But not all massage bottles  are safe to warm in the microwave or bottle warmer. Many plastics simple will not hold up.

However High Density Polyethylene or HDPE plastic is heat resistant up to 200 degrees, far hotter then you would ever want to heat your massage oil or lotion.

HDPE is see through enough to check your oil or lotion level but it is not Crystal clear. However it is tough, I have never had one break or split when dropped on the floor.

And HDPE is recyclable!

Our Massage Oil Bottle is the standard 8 ounce size that fits most all massage holsters and massage oil warmers. Locking pump included.

Home Exercise Programs for Back & Neck Pain
Overview
Your back and neck are responsible for supporting the bulk of your body weight. Having back and neck pain can make it difficult to move around and perform everyday tasks. Common causes of back and neck pains include arthritis, heavy lifting, bad posture, age-related degeneration and impact to the area. If back and neck pain is keeping you down, starting a regular home exercise program can help get you back on your feet.
Back Exercises
Regular exercise is one of the best ways to help ease mild to moderate back pain. MedlinePlus recommends exercising your back three times a week for 15-minute intervals. Stretching exercises like the arm reach, the back arch and the side stretch can help to relax and strengthen tight, weak back muscles. For the arm reach, get down on your hands and knees with your head facing the floor and alternate stretching each arm outward. For the back arch, stand up on your feet with your hands on your lower back and bend your upper torso backwards. For the side stretch, stand up on your feet with one hand on your hip and stretch the opposite arm over your head.
Neck Exercises
Stretching exercises are also very effective in easing mild to moderate neck pain. MedlinePlus recommends stretching your neck muscles three times a week for 15-minute intervals. Neck stretching exercises can help increase the strength and flexibility of your neck muscles and reduce uncomfortable stiffness. Hold each neck stretch for 15 to 30 seconds. For chin stretches, bend your neck forward until your chin touches your chest, and then repeat the process while stretching your neck backwards. For side stretches, slowly turn your neck to the right, and then repeat the process while turning your neck to the left. For tilt stretches, lean your head down toward your right shoulder, and then repeat the process leaning your head toward your left shoulder.
Considerations
In order for your home exercise program to effectively relieve your back and neck pain, you must perform the exercises properly. Be sure to use correct posture and to distribute your body weight evenly. Use slow, steady movements rather than sudden jerky motions to avoid further injuring your muscles. Stretch your back and neck muscles far enough so that you feel a slight pull but not so far that it feels uncomfortable or painful. Keep in mind that you do not have to overdo it to get results.
Warning
While home exercise programs may be effective in relieving mild to moderate back and neck pain, sufferers with severe back and neck pain may need help from a professional physical therapist. Physical therapists are trained to know which movements are safe for more severe back and neck injuries. A physical therapist can help walk you through each exercise and monitor your movements. Talk to your doctor before starting a home exercise program for severe back and neck pain relief.

The notion that the health of one system of the body affects the whole should be a common-sense conclusion, yet in the last 80 years the world of medicine has been controlled by pharmaceutical companies promoting temporary solutions to ease the symptoms of disease rather than correcting the cause. Their advertising budgets have been sufficiently astronomical to sway the public to accept this as normal and healthy. Most of us were brought up with access to a medicine cabinet or doctor with a prescription pad when any sign of poor health became evident. It would be unheard of for a doctor to recommend massage therapy to a patient so that his immune system could be strengthened to help current problems and prevent future illness.
Pills and flu shots have proven to be unsuccessful in generating dynamically cured patients, only a very large selling market conditioned to buy pharmaceuticals for conditions that can be treated naturally. Most everybody walks out of a doctor’s office without hearing a word about getting some exercise and eating properly. You are, however going to be asked if you want a flu shot. This casual request should be considered carefully: some batches of flu vaccine have caused side effects such as guillain-barre syndrome, vasculitis, anaphylactic shock and even death.
The decades of the 1960s and 1970s saw a revolutionary change in the way people saw their bodies. Those New Age visionaries who at that time seemed so strange developing lifestyles that revolved around yoga, Tai Chi, therapeutic massage, chiropractic adjustment, aromatherapy, homeopathy, and other old and new traditions that could benefit the mind and body. Most of these treatments and procedures involve clearing the flow of energy in the body. When the potential electrochemical energy of the body builds up in one area due to a blockage, then the balance of life-force is put off kilter, resulting in stress and eventual illness.
A person’s mind cannot be left out of the equation when discussing overall health. Discomfort and pain of any kind will have an effect on the consciousness and ultimately the disposition of the sufferer. “A sound mind in a sound body” is a universally true axiom. Conversely, the power of the mind can perform wonders on the body when a person is able to focus an overwhelming optimism on the condition. One problem with drugs is that they can sedate the mind or make the patient feel depressed while he’s waiting for the pharmaceuticals to work their magic. However, without removing the stress in muscles that is blocking the life force, there is insufficient energy to bolster the spirit necessary for the body to heal itself.
Some alternative therapies remain shrouded in mystery, but the facts on the effects of massage therapy are so obviously simple to understand that it stands out from anything labeled as “alternative” and must be accepted into the mainstream of medicine, not just for physical injuries but for general health. In our society today, stress is an epidemic that results in heart attacks, cancer, and a host of other serious conditions including mental states leading to violence against others or even suicide. The massage therapist provides treatment that stimulates the body to flush toxins out, making for a better immune system.
Yoga and Tai Chi are therapeutic in nature from every perspective; these arts provide exercise (with a heavy emphasis on breathing techniques) along with a peaceful state of mind achieved by meditation and awareness of body systems. The lines along which life force flows are known as “meridians” and centers of energy are called “chakras”. These are basic to Zen arts and also to massage therapy. It would be impossible to imagine someone being in an upset or violent state after a relaxing hour-long massage treatment.

This sounds weird, don’t you think so? Injuries mostly mean wounds. Sometimes, after the wounds are healed up, there are remainders that cannot be healed so easily.

Massage therapy might be the solution. I would like to talk to you about a massage that is called qi-ssage. This name is a combination of two words. And of two methods. The first word and method is qigong and the second word and method is massage.

Chunyi Lin is the developer of both methods. They are based on ancient Chinese wisdom and practice and translated into a method that is easy to use by the Western world.

Both methods work on the energy that flows through the human body. It flows through channels that are also called meridians.

Whereas qigong uses the whole body for its exercises, qi-ssage is done on certain points along the energy channels.

There are sets of points in various areas of the body. These points will be massaged with a certain pressure, just enough to not hurt the patient. The points belong to various organs in the body. Most of them help heal more than one organ or area. Some of them are very specific. Let us assume that a person has suffered an accident and their injury is on the head. You can press the two eyebrow points They are located at the inner side of the eyebrows. You place your left thumb on the right eyebrow point and hold it there. This point is just outside the bridge of the nose along the edge of the bone that forms the right eye socket – actually where the right eyebrow begins.

By holding your thumb on this point, you keep the energy on the right side of the body focused in the right center of the head and brain. This helps stimulate the area that produces endorphins, the body’s natural pain- killer. Endorphins help you relax and just feel good.

Then you place your right thumb on the left eyebrow point. You press and massage it in small circles three times. This point is just outside the bridge of the nose, along the edge of the bone that forms the left eye socket.

This movement sends the flow of energy from the brain down the entire left side of the body to the left leg and foot and then back up to the left center of the brain The person who is treated should feel comfortable with the pressure you exercise.

Visualize the healing energy flowing from your heart into your hands, then into the energy points and throughout the body.

A very important point in doing this kind of massage, is the message you use to help heal the injuries suffered by the person you are treating. The message is LOVE. Love is the best healing ingredient in whatever method you use. Love can be seen as light. And it comes out of your heart and goes into your thumbs. From your thumbs it flows into the energy points you are pressing and massaging.

This is just one part of the whole procedure. It can already be enough to help the injured person.

If you want to do more, move the energy up with your right thumb to the top of the forehead. This energy point is right in the center of the forehead about four inches up. It is usually where the hairline begins.

Then lift your right thumb, place it back on the left eyebrow point and repeat this movement seven times.

With your right thumb on the left eyebrow point, you move the energy up the forehead, continuing to the middle of the top of the head. Give a little extra pressure on this point. Pressing on this point also helps to send energy to all of the internal organs.

Lift your thumb and repeat the movement seven times.

Once you have completed moving energy to the top of the head seven times, lift both of your thumbs and allow the energy to flow throughout the right side of the body. This rush of energy stimulates the energy flow of the entire body.

You see, these are little movements, but they can heal injuries on the head and even in internal organs.

The period following a diagnosis of cancer can be a devastating, stressful time for the patient. Immediately following the diagnosis, the patient will meet with his/her oncologist to discuss treatment options. Traditional treatment usually includes chemotherapy and radiation treatments to eliminate the cancerous cells. Other options that may be discussed include life style changes, diet, and exercise to be utilized with the traditional treatments. Many doctors are now also seeing the benefit of massage therapy in cancer patients. Massage therapy is used in addition to, not as a replacement for, traditional cancer treatment. Check out our directory of message therapists to find one in your area.

Medical benefits of a therapeutic massage are numerous. Studies have shown that massage therapy increase circulation and oxygen supply to healthy tissues allowing the body to work more effectively overall. Additional medical benefits includes decreased number of headaches and backaches, and decreases stiffness and arthritis symptoms. Therapeutic massage has also been shown to improve the functioning of the lymphatic system which helps promote wellness in cancer patients.

Massage therapy also has many mental health benefits. A diagnosis of cancer is very stressful. The patient will go through a wide range of emotions. Depression is common in cancer patients due to the potentially devastating nature of the disease. Massage therapy reduces stress and improves overall well-being of the patient. Studies have shown that stress reduction can greatly improve a patient’s ability to fight cancer. When utilized in the hospital setting, massage therapy has been shown to relieve pain and reduce anxiety.

While there are many benefits of massage therapy in cancer patients, there are some precautions that must be observed for maximum benefit and to reduce the chances of injury or illness. Massage should not be used immediately following surgery or treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation. Also, massage should not be utilized over bruises or areas where tumors are known to be present. Cancer patients with varicose veins should also avoid massage. The doctor and patient will discuss all treatment options and decide which route to take to treat cancer as well as treat the patients overall well-being.

Therapeutic massage can be performed in a number of settings and cost varies. Many hospitals and doctor offices now employ massage therapists as a service to their patients. Massage therapists also have private offices and many even come to the patient’s home. The national average cost for a therapeutic massage is $60.00 per hour. Some insurance companies will cover some or all of the costs of a therapeutic massage if the doctor orders the procedure as part of the treatment process; however, the cost is usually the sole responsibility of the patient. Finding a certified massage therapist and cost of the procedure are barriers to some cancer patients.

There are many benefits to massage therapy in the treatment of cancer. Massage is not a cure for the disease; however, it can be used in conjunction with traditional treatments to help reduce the stress inherent with a cancer diagnosis. Studies have shown that massage therapy greatly increases a patient’s overall sense of well-being while battling cancer.

It is misleading to brand the practice of the many techniques of massage as “alternative” when it has been carried on for centuries all over the world. It is really as mainstream as you can get; there are any number of benefits provided to the billions of cells the make us function. It is holistic; meaning something good happening to one body system influences others positively as they communicate with each other. To heal the whole body it is necessary to achieve a healthy balance overall.

A person becomes stronger when there are no blockages to hamper the flow of life energy known by the Chinese term “chi”. The life force name corresponds to the legendary and mystical chi of the martial arts such as Tai Chi Chuan and the other Kung Fu arts of China, Korean Hapkido, and Japanese Aikido, where chi is magnified. Chi energy flows along 12 body meridian channels: small intestine, large intestine, stomach, liver, spleen, kidney, heart, governing vessel, lungs, triple heater, bladder, and gall bladder.

Clearing obstacles throughout the body by way of massage therapy removes toxic situations brought about by factors like stress, dead cells, crooked posture, etc., and tunes it up for smooth driving so to speak. In turn the mind is affected for the better and allows the panicked central nervous system to stand down and relax. In a word, stress is a killer. It weakens the performance of the organs protected and connected by the first of our systems: the skeletal system.

There are 206 bones in the skeletal system holding us together so that we can carry around all of our body tissue, organs, veins, and whatnot. Then it’s all tucked together so the stuff won’t fall out by the integumentary system, which is a fancy word for skin. The bones, which are usually in need of structural re-alignment massage are held together by tendons and ligaments – this is the articular system. The muscular system allows us the physical ability to perform work. Massage starts at the muscles but also goes inward to stimulate and straighten the cells with deep tissue massage.

The fuel we run on is processed by the digestive or alimentary system (organs associated with ingestion, digestion, absorption of food and elimination of its associated waste). It also produces the gases so familiar to massage therapists in the course of a day. The other gaseous elements like oxygen, carbon dioxide, and whatever happens to be in the air is the responsibility of the respiratory system’s lungs and air passages of the bronchial tubes and nasal cavity.

Giving the commands via electro-chemical energy, is the nervous system: it is comprised of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), and peripheral nervous system (cranial and spinal nerves). The nervous system is the ultimate beneficiary of the work done by the RMT once the spine relaxes and blood flow becomes more streamlined. Blood starts moving easier during and after a massage through the circulatory system, which consists of the cardiovascular (heart and blood vessels) and the lymphatic systems (lymphatic vessels and lymph nodes). This in turn stimulates the glands and hormone-secreting cells of the endocrine system, as well the urinary system so you may want to visit the restroom on the way out.

If your reproductive system becomes stimulated during the massage you’re pretty much on your own.

iStock 000006716453XSmall 150x150 Massage Holster, an extra hand for Massage TherapistsA Massage Holster is an inexpensive and common tool used by many Massage Therapists. However, they are such a simple tool that many therapist overlook the many benefits.

Ever reach for your oil bottle only to bump it and cause it to come crashing to the floor? Startling your client is never a very effective relaxation technique. And even if you’re super careful, sometimes your client will move and inadvertently send the bottle flying across the room.

You can keep the bottle safely on a counter top, out of the reach of moving arm and legs. But that creates a new problem, now it’s out of your reach too, how convenient is that? With a massage holster, your oil or lotion is always right by your side without danger of being dropped or kicked to the floor. No more awkward reaching/searching for that elusive oil/lotion bottle.

Keep in mind there are many kinds of massage holsters out there to pick from. In choosing one remember that a good holster will have a belt that you can adjust to your own needs, and will be sturdy and machine washable. The rest is according to your own personal tastes and comfort. Try taking it on and off, is it easy to buckle and unbuckle? Does it feel good in you hands?

There are many, many tools and gadgets all designed to make a massage therapists job easier, there are very few that help as much and cost as little as a massage holster does.

iStock 000005141235Small 150x150 Massage Oil Warmer or Massage Holster?

Warm oil massage

Many Massage Therapists and Body Workers are familiar with the benefits of providing warm oil massage for their clients. In the past, MT’s  have  had to choose between the convenience of a Massage Holster, and using a massage oil warmer.

Massage oil warmers are great but as soon as you remove the bottle from the warmer, it quickly cools off, not even lasting long enough for a one hour massage. I discovered that even if I used an insulated holster, it would not hold the warmth for an entire hour.

Then one day, right in the middle of working on a client it occurred to me “why not use a heat pack in the holster to keep the oil warm?” At that time I had been practicing massage for over a decade but I had never heard of a heated massage holster. However, the idea was so simple I quickly assumed that there was one out there. That evening when I got home I searched the internet for a “heated massage holster”, to my surprise, I found none.

So I decided to make one. I used hemp linen for it’s durability and because hemp is a sustainable fiber. After many adjustments and modifications I came up with the Hot Massage Holster. I made, and gave away, dozens of Hot Massage Holsters to other Massage Therapists, so that I could get suggestions and ideas on how to improve it.

The end results is a massage holster and belt made of all natural 100% Hemp, with an interlining of 100% wool. The Hot Massage Holster has it’s own flaxseed heat pack. Just take a minute or two to heat your massage lotion or oil bottle and your flaxseed heat pack  in the microwave and it’s ready to go! Giving your clients the benefits and luxury of warm oil massage for up to two hours.

It even works well for out calls. Simply prepare your Hot Massage Holster before leaving your home or office and wrap in a towel until you need it, and you will have warm oil for a 60 or a 90 minute massage. Your clients will notice the difference! The Hot Massage Holster is machine washable and because it is made of sturdy, Eco friendly Hemp, it is built to last!

iStock 000009144947XSmall1 150x150 Massage Holster A Massage Holster is a handy tool for the Massage Therapist or body worker. It keeps your oil or lotion conveniently by your side so you can focus on your client.

You don’t have to step away from your client to reach for your massage bottle. And better yet,  a Massage Oil Holster prevents the occasionally bottle dropping to the floor because it slipped from your hand or was knocked down accidentally by your client.

In todays economy, it can be hard to get yourself to stand out from all the other Massage Therapists. Often times it’s the little things that can make a difference for a client when they are choosing who to go to. Providing a warm oil massage is one of those “little things” that can make a huge difference. Many Massage Therapist charge 10 to 15 dollars extra for a “Warm Oil Massage”. Some simply choose to add it as a bonus to their usual treatments.  Either way, your client will notice the difference with our heated Massage Holster, its better then a massage oil warmer!
